Associate Professional Counselor

Ali Dixon

Ali Dixon is an Associate Professional Counselor at The Anxiety & Stress Management Institute. She received her Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University and Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Tulane University (cum laude). Prior to joining ASMI, Ali led coping skills groups throughout the Greater New Orleans area in the years following Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill. She was a member of a team that applied helpful thinking, mindfulness, and reaction management techniques to aid clients in maximizing positive resources in the most defeating circumstances.

Ali’s clinical specialties are anxiety, stress, trauma, life transitions, family of origin issues, relationship concerns, and career counseling. At the basis of her therapeutic approach is the belief that we are all resilient – innately able to become happy and successful again after distressing things happen. Ali incorporates person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy. To assist clients in pursuing desired results, she utilizes mindfulness, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, career assessments, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) among a variety of evidence-based techniques.

Ali is deeply passionate about helping people who have experienced difficult life events find balance, meaning, and joy. Throughout life, many people arrive at a place of feeling stuck or overwhelmed. It is in these moments that we ask ourselves, how did I get here and where do I go now? Ali helps clients answer those questions by assisting them in creating a deeper awareness of whom they have been and whom they want to be going forward.  By exploring the areas most important to her clients - personal, professional, or spiritual – she draws upon their strengths to provide them with tools and skills that relieve distress and foster a balanced life. She then creates a comfortable environment to address underlying causes of distress and promote healing from impactful life experiences. Through this approach, clients walk away with increased self-awareness, self-care skills, and life satisfaction. Ali would be honored to support you as you take the next step towards wellness.

Ali Dixon, M.S., LAPC, NCC is licensed in the State of Georgia as an Associate Professional Counselor (License # APC004967) operating under the direction & supervision of the Clinical Director, Rebecca Beaton, Ph.D.
